Google + Tablet = Gooblet

News today that HTC will team up with google to offer a tablet presumably running chromium aka Chrome OS. Having played with it on a netbook (cherryOS from @hexxeh ) here are some quick points
  • ChromeOS is good and fast but  restricts a user to a browser only environment.
  • Lack of Apps - I would think that google is working feverishly to get its android apps to run on chrome OS. Without the apps the Gooblet is just another JooJoo.
  • Media Media Media - A boxee like media interface to all the media I have on my network or in the cloud. An HDMI out to hook up to my TV with optical audio out is what we are all waiting for.
  • Killer UI - Need a more android / iPhone UI look & feel to appeal to non-geeks.
  • The Print Media - As per jobs not many people are reading books but a heck a lot of them are reading magazines and newspapers and blogs. If google can build a slick interface to the print media it will give amazon & apple a run for their ereaders.
  • All Day Battery - I think the first company to provide a computer that can last a day without plugging in will win the war. This would require tech expertise in batteries , display technologies and Chip design. This trifecta is another area where apple will be tough to beat.
The race is certainly heating up and the consumer is sure to benefit from the upcoming tablet wars.
